The new Samsung Galaxy S6 – The Post

The Galaxy Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge were presented Sunday night by Samsung in Barcelona, Spain, during a special event in view of the opening of the Mobile World Congress, the largest electronics fair dedicated to mobile phones which officially begins today. The two new smartphones are an important opportunity for Samsung, which last year sold fewer phones than expected, suffering competition from Apple and the success of the latest generation of its iPhone. Samsung is divided by zero, rethinking its phones especially with regard to the design: the new Galaxy, however, very reminiscent of some competitors, starting right from the iPhone.

• The Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge Galaxy have a totally revised design compared to previous Galaxy: they are less ” plasticky “and more finished with glass panels (Gorilla Glass, among the most resistant available) in the front and in the rear, which fit on the edges of the metal; the S6 Edge has a screen more rounded and that continues on the sides.

• The two variants of Galaxy S6 have: a screen 5.1 inch 2560 x 1440 pixels (577 pixels per inch, ppi) ; 3 GB RAM; internal memory of 32, 64 or 128 GB; fingerprint reader to unlock the phone; Wireless charging systems; an external speaker 1.5 times more powerful than the previous Galaxy.

• The new design of the Galaxy S6, however, has forced Samsung to leave behind some features that other models really liked its customers: the battery is not replaceable, there is the possibility of extending the capabilities of the phone with an external memory, the phone is no longer resistant to levels comparable with the Galaxy S5. With this choice Samsung has aligned with the standards of Apple and other competition.

• The two new Galaxy S6 have a 16-megapixel camera and Samsung has worked hard to make it activated in a few moments, accepting the user requests disappointed by the performance of the previous model. The company says that when you start the application to take pictures the camera is active and available within 0.7 seconds. The yield of the sensor has been improved, there is a system to stabilize the lens and another to keep moving subjects in focus while you turn the video.

• Samsung has added to the new version of its smartphone a wireless payment system, which works much like Apple Pay. The function for the two new Samsung Galaxy S6 is called Pay: you enter the details of your credit card in the phone and this can be used to pay at the cash shop, using the POS already authorized to receive payments “contactless”. The transaction is authorized by the fingerprint reader. The system will be activated from the summer.

• The two new phones use Lollipop, the latest version of Android, the Google operating system. Samsung for the first time has chosen to significantly reduce the amount of customization that added to the operating system, usually appesantendolo with redundant functions and little used by users. The company claims to have put 40 percent down, which should encourage greater rapidity in executing options Lollipop and reduced confusion.

• There is no doubt that the main source of inspiration for its new Samsung Galaxy S6 have been the Apple iPhone 6, on sale since last fall. Seen from the side the two smartphones are extremely similar, both aesthetically and as regards the choice of materials. Both have also projecting the camera in the back and on the front, a fingerprint reader that works much the same way (on the Galaxy S5 was, but it worked by rubbing over the fingertip). Samsung and Apple have spent years in court to make war with each other causes billionaire breach of patents. That time seems to have passed almost entirely, but the competition between the two companies remains strong.

• The Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Galaxy Edge will go on sale worldwide from next April 10 . Official prices have not yet been disclosed, but it is likely that will approach those of the Apple iPhone.
