Samsung is developing a new production process for … – HDblog (Blog)

One of the reasons why the Galaxy S6 Edge is the most expensive smartphone ever made by Samsung is that processing of the display with double curvature, requires a production process more complicated than usual.

Immediately after the official presentation, Samsung has explained that the process has used the name of 3D thermoforming and how this differs from any other process adopted up to now for the working of a curved display, including that of notes Edge. However it seems that this process will soon be about to change due to the low efficiency to which it is subject; when the 3D Thermoforming heats the glass to be changed in both sides, causing alterations of the glass that help make this process impractical. To contribute to the increased costs we think, too, of the glass polishing process worked.

The new process should be limited to heat only one side of the screen, thereby reducing the alterations caused by the heat and making the ‘entire process up to 70% more efficient of the current one. This new technique should be adopted on an experimental basis in factories in Vietnam Samsung then be adopted by the entire production.
