Bendgate is the term used to describe an alleged defect of the iPhone 6 Plus, or the ease with which deform when subjected to a certain pressure. SquareTrade , a company that offers protection plans for damage to mobile devices, has demonstrated that even the Samsung Galaxy S6 edge is “bendable” as the smartphone Apple . The Korean manufacturer has released a statement to deny the result of the durability test.
The frame of the Galaxy S6 edge was made Aluminium 6013 , typically used for aircraft fuselages , cars, yachts and mountain biking. This material is 1.5 times stronger and 1.2 times more scratch resistant 6063 aluminum used by other manufacturers. During the presentation, the CEO said that Samsung had ironically new smartphone do not bend , unlike the iPhone 6 Plus. According to SquareTrade, however, the Galaxy S6 edge has the same problem of the Apple device.
The durability test was carried out using a machine called BendBot that simulates the pressure exercised on the smartphone kept in his back pocket. The breaking the screen of the Galaxy S6 edge occurs at 110 lbf (50 kgf). Even the iPhone 6 Plus is deformed when applied the same pressure, but the screen remains intact, as seen in the video. The device, however, Samsung has a curved glass on both sides, so less resistant than glass flat.
The Korean manufacturer has stated that testing performed is not complete and then does not show the actual durability of the smartphone. First, the pressure exerted by a person is at the maximum of 66 lbf (30 kgf). Based on the test of Samsung, Galaxy S6 edge does not bend to the pressure of 79 lbf (32 kgf) , equivalent to the force required to break five pencils. Smartphones also have a different durability for each of the two sides. SquareTrade has tested only the front of the device. Samsung then asked to repeat the test for both sides.
The Korean company has posted a video of her bend test to prove that Galaxy S6 edge is not deformable from a person.
