With the arrival in stores of the new iPhone 7, and the delivery of the first devices ordered online, there are many users ready to test in depth the performance. And after the various benchmarks and teardown, it is the time of the first test dive, to find out if smartphones are really water-resistant, as stated by Apple. A movie, in particular, is to attract the attention of users on the social network: not only the iPhone 7 behave very well in water, but their resistance seems to be higher than the Galaxy S7 for Samsung. A surprising fact, considering how the latter have a certification higher than in the device of the Cupertino.
The new iPhone 7 have been standardized to certification IP67 water resistance: in other words, they can remain immersed at a depth of around one metre for thirty minutes. The Samsung Galaxy S7, instead, have the next certification IP68 and, for this, they can be immersed in addition to a meter for periods of longer times.
From your YouTube channel, EverythingApplePro, not only wanted to compare the two devices, in order to test the behavior of the respective certifications, but wanted to make the smartphone of the evidence well beyond their capacity. And thus emerges not only as both devices show a resistance to the water much more extended compared to the specifications provided by the respective manufacturers, but also, as iPhone 7 reveal a greater duration, despite the certification below.
For the test, the experts at the YouTube channel they wanted to immerse the device directly in the icy waters of the ocean at different depths for five minutes and repeat. Up to 6 metres, the two smartphones are identical, as well as exemplary: neither of the two, in fact, shows damage from contact with water, or signs of condensation on the internal parts. At 9 metres, however, the devices begin to show the first signs of subsidence: the Galaxy S7 begins a cycle of automatic restarts, while the Home button of Apple shows some of the difficulties in the detection of the touch. It is more than 10 meters, however, the winner is identified: the device Samsung is no longer available, because the screen is now black, while the iPhone 7 will continue to work normally, although with visible damage in the area of the display.
of Course, the test conducted is not standardized nor performed in the laboratory, so the results obtained cannot be considered universal. Also, for daily use, and it is really difficult to send your smartphone to the like contacts with water, as a consequence, both the iPhone 7 and the Galaxy S7 can be considered to be practically equivalent to the typical uses of the consumer.
