Macitynet compared the average selling price on eBay for iPhone 6 and Samsung Galaxy S6, devices that are over a year old but they are far from obsolete. That’s who has kept most of its value over time.
E ‘has always been known as the Apple devices retain their value, to the point that it is certain exaggeration to call an iPhone a “investment”, selling a used means being able to get a decent amount of examples on eBay. But what, beyond the clichés, it is true that this seems to have become a sort of axiom? To test first hand (and a calculator) the estate in time of Apple devices, we wanted to analyze the Italian listings on eBay for iPhone 6, completed in the last 60 days with a sale, by comparing the average value of sale of an iPhone 6 with that of main rival, namely the Samsung Galaxy S6.
in our analysis we have isolated some conditions: the object must have been sold in Italy; it had to be an object used and finally we chose the minimal memory cutting, 16 GB and 32 GB iPhone for Samsung Galaxy S6, so as to also have a significant and aligned sample of data.
‘aspect that has leapt to the eye was the difference in the resulting sample: iPhone 6 were returned 455 results, while Galaxy S6 only 125 results, which shows a marked difference in the premium segment as Apple’s market dominance is incontestable
in terms of sales prices of all the results, the average selling price of a 16GB iPhone 6 was approximately € 324.61, while the average price of the Galaxy S6 from 32 GB was 306.81 €.
Compared to the price list, 729 Euros for iPhone 6 and 739 Euro per Galaxy S6, the Apple smartphone is confirmed between the two as able to maintain its value , losing about 55 percent of original list price, compared with 58 percent of the Galaxy S6. In absolute terms, those who sell an iPhone 6 earns just over 5.8 per cent more than those who sell a Galaxy S6.
We also wanted to analyze a smaller sample of eBay sales, or the sales in excess of EUR 200, excluding sales of so potentially faulty devices or not working, which tend to lower average sales.
Considering only this data sample, the average selling price of a iPhone 6 was approximately € 367.57, while the average price of the Galaxy S6 was 328.83 Euros. It decreases the loss in value compared to the price, with the iPhone 6, which loses about 50 percent of the list price, while the Galaxy S6 55 percent. however, increases the difference in revenues: excluding the failed devices, who sells an iPhone 6 earns slightly more than 10 percent more than those who sell a Galaxy S6.
Interesting finally analyze the rate of daily devaluation of the two devices: iPhone 6 was launched in Italy September 24, 2014 and in 605 days – considered the average selling price on eBay today and excluding devices faults – has lost 365.43, slightly more than 60 cents a day. Galaxy S6 instead is available for purchase from the April 10, 2015 and in 407 days lost 410.10 Euros in value, about 1 euro per day, over 60% more than the iPhone devaluation 6. In short, despite the iPhone 6 is older than the Galaxy s6 of nearly seven months, is worth more.
In conclusion, buy a mobile of Apple remains the best investment for those who think then sell it online.
