The Galaxy Note 7 has received very positive reviews, thanks to its design, the quality of the rear camera and the beautiful Super AMOLED display, which is considered the best ever. Experts from iFixit , however, have highlighted the flaws due to its technological solutions developed by Samsung. However, the final judgment affects only users who have the courage to dismantle a phablet from almost 900 euro.
At first glance, the Galaxy Note 7 seems a bigger Galaxy S7 edge with the S Pen stylus. In fact, the design is very similar, because the screen is curved on both sides (dual edge) and there are some common characteristics, such as resistance to water and dust proof (IP68 certified). The first difference you notice looking at the bottom, where there are the door USB Type-C and the housing for the stylus. To find more you need to open the smartphone, operation to be performed with extreme care (and the right tools) to avoid breakage of the glass back cover .
Before you access the battery and the motherboard, remove the coil to the wireless charging , fixed to the frame with a few screws. The 3500 mAh battery is glued of course, so you need a special tool for its removal. Now it turns out another difference from the Galaxy S7 edge. The Notes 7 integrates three cameras , from 0:05 megapixel rear and the front, and used by the iris scanner for biometric recognition.
On the two sides of the motherboard they are welded all the main chips, including the Snapdragon 820 processor, 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of LPDDR4 UFS 2.0 flash memory. The components accessible from the outside, as the audio jack, the USB Type-C port and the buttons are protected by a rubber seal to prevent the ingress of water. The same treatment was reserved for the S Pen slot. At the end of the teardown, iFixit has given a phablet to score of 4/10 . The Galaxy Note 7 is therefore not a suitable product for do-it-yourself, since there are high chances of breaking the frame and the dual edge display.
