The 2014 is going to go on file, after being marked by the launch of a long series of smartphones with specifications and features unimaginable until only recently: these devices have come largely from traditional giants that dominate this area for years, Apple and Samsung in the first place, but many were device high level proposed by Chinese companies, which are gaining market share ever more important.

Just Samsung, one of the “big boys” in the industry, was the one that has suffered most from the challenge posed by the Chinese (Xiaomi and Huawei on all): the Galaxy S5, which had been announced (at least in part with good reason) as a revolutionary device has instead betrayed the expectations in terms of sales, after a fast start behind the launch is stops are well below what is achieved by the Galaxy S4.

Speaking of flops is perhaps excessive, but expectations of Samsung were very different. In part, the reasons of the failure can be found in the fact that the Galaxy S5 is an evolution of its “big brother”, rather than a real new smartphone. Or at least that’s how the public perceived it. And it is for this reason that the South Korean company has decided to change course regarding what will be its top of the range in 2015: the Samsung Galaxy S6 .

Asian giant has nicknamed “Project Zero” the development path of the Galaxy S6 , a designation that implies the fact that the new device will not be an evolution of the S5, but “something unique and different “, as explained by the usual well-informed sources close to Samsung.

According to SamMobile, usually an extremely reliable source regarding Samsung products, on board the Galaxy S5 will find a display with HD resolution Quad (2560 x 1440), although there are still no information regarding the size of the screen. The S5 has a diagonal of 5.1 “, while the Galaxy Note 4 comes to 5.7″: it is likely that the new top of the range will be a middle ground between these two measures.

camera sensor will be the Sony IMX240, the same built-in Galaxy Note 4: in the case of the Galaxy S6 resolution should be between 16:20 MP , with optical image stabilization (the front camera for Selfie and video should instead be 5 MP). There should be as usual two variants regarding the processor: one of the two should carry a Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 with 64-bit architecture, a small beast octa-core which should be a standard in high-end devices released in 2015.

In terms of memory versions proposals should be those of 32, 64 and 128 GB : the absence of a variant with 16 GB seems to be a confirmation of a general trend of ‘industry towards devices that can be extracted from the package with enough memory to not buy microSD cards to save space.

However, some of the most interesting news on the subject of rumors about the Samsung Galaxy S6 have emerged in the past few hours: it seems that the next flagship South Korean will be available in two versions, a “traditional” and another with a curved display, as seen this year with the Galaxy Note Edge . This variant could be called Galaxy S6 Edge, although obviously there is nothing official yet.

In this respect a reference point might just be the Galaxy Note with Edge its curved display on the right side, visually and technically fascinating but still with the limits in terms of ease of use. The S6 may be bent on both sides , and it will be interesting to see if Samsung will take account of the complaints of some customers that lefties stann having trouble fully exploit the potential of Note Edge, maybe offering a feature that “Reverse mirror” the main interface commands.

According to rumors a few weeks ago, Samsung Galaxy S6 could be unveiled at the next Mobile World Congress (MWC 2015) , which will be staged in Barcelona 2 to 5 March 2015. Samsung most likely held a separate event for the launch of the next flagship.
