Samsung Galaxy Note Edge, the video-review – Panorama

Samsung has been waiting for this year to announce his bigwig. It’s called Galaxy Note Edge but do not be fooled by the name nor the scoresheet specifications: behind what may seem like a simple version of the Galaxy Note 4 Duroplast chassis hides actually a completely new device, and in some revolutionary ways.

Yes, because the new Samsung Galaxy Note Edge is the first smartphone to integrate a double display , so to speak traditional one, and the other hooked for reading notifications, from calls to text messages, the calendar alerts to the mentions of Twitter.

In fact, when turned off, this separation is not perceived: the display of the new bearer Korean Programming offers a continuum, a single panel that slopes gently down to the right side of the chassis (miracles of new flexible panels). But just type on the power button and here unveiled the split personality : while the main portion of the screen (the flat) remain active all the main functions of the phone, from the home to the photo gallery, the Internet browser to application, along the curved profile appear – vertically – all notifications regarding Call , posts and application . A real second screen minimal, designed to improve the effectiveness of the multi-tasking : in fact, explain makers Samsung, with a device shaped in this way, you can receive notifications directly on edge of the screen while you are watching such content, without disturbing vision.

Under Below that is a Galaxy Note 4
Excluding the peculiarity of the display, the Galaxy Note Edge is like saying a clone of Galaxy Note 4. The hardware includes a fact Super Amoled display Quad HD (2560×1440) 5.6 inch , a 2.7 GHz quad-core processor, 3 GB of RAM, an S-Pen stylus, a f otocamera main 16 megapixel with optical IS and a 3.7-megapixel front lens (f 1.9). Basically the same even the basic software of the device: Android 4.4 (KitKat) has been customized by Samsung here with the usual book of unique applications (such as S-Health, Air Command. Slightly lower, however, the ability the battery : 3000 mAh against 3220 of the Galaxy Note 4.

How does the second screen
But, is no getting around it, what makes this Galaxy Note Edge special, and therefore desirable, is the display side curved . Mind you, it is not the first time that you see a screen “bent” on a smartphone: compared to all other experiments of the past, however, the Galaxy Note Edge has the merit of offering a ‘ Innovation finally useful : The portion of the screen “extra”, in fact, is especially convenient to always have an eye on the list of favorite applications rather than incoming messages, calls, and a whole range of instruments necessities (torch, timer, ruler, voice memos). The whole – and this is perhaps the most important – in a rather simple and intuitive. The conformation of the same display, rounded on the end of the profile, brings the thumb to “slip” of course the right edge to compose the new gesture “edge” , especially for a right-handed user (demand this point arises: will a version for lefties rounded on the left?).

Not only notifications
To select the application to display on the display curved – or, rather, notifications to be distilled – is Simply access the menu Screen Curved and from there go to the subsection Manage Panels . It should be said that at present not all applications are optimized to “enter” the second display: when we write to you, for example, the Galaxy Note Edge is able to view notifications and mentions of Twitter , but no status updates to Facebook . Matter of time, of course. Like all next-generation media (think eg smartwatch) even smartphones experimental as this Galaxy Note Edge will need an ad hoc basis.

The functions, however, are not limited solely to notifications: the intention of Samsung is in fact to offer a number of dedicated resources that are able to interpret the opportunities offered by the dual screens. Something, in this sense, you can already see by accessing the camera menu , where the display curved becomes a real Control Bar for the regulation of all the basic parameters of shooting, by the shutter to the mode dial, until adjustments “purposes”. In doing so, the main display remains “clean” and therefore exploitable 100% to compose the image.

Conclusion
Despite being a device somewhat experimental, the new Samsung Galaxy Note Edge seems to have all it takes to become a potential “crack”. The presence of a second curved touch screen independent from the main screen should never be classified as a mere exercise in style rather than a genuine attempt to improve (read faster and more addictive) user experience. Time will tell if the plan of ‘ reliability the new smartphone is already a mature product or whether it will need some refinement, especially for the software. Certainly the price – 869 € – no second thoughts: who wants to pay the price of new.
