Gerrard is America: Galaxy offer him 25 million – The Republic

LONDON – Goodbye Liverpool, next stop in Los Angeles? The LA Galaxy would be prepared to offer a contract to Steven Gerrard from 20 million pounds a year (25 million euro), after the decision of the captain of the Reds to leave the club for which he plays for seventeen years. According to rumors published by the Daily Mirror, Gerrard would receive the same salary paid by Galaxy David Beckham, the star of the Premier League who played for years in the American professional soccer league at the end of his career in Europe. The company’s Los Angeles poured in Beckham a salary of 100 thousand pounds (125 thousand euro) a week and would give the same amount to Gerrard wi th a four-year contract. What is certain, Gerrard will play in the MLS: “Steven Gerrard Confirms he will move to the US this summer”, confirms Liverpool on Twitter.

The Mirror writes that the same Beckham and emissaries of the Galaxy would have already made contact with the 34 year-old captain of Liverpool, although the president of the California team has refused to make any comment about it, saying: “We have not decided anything.” Other North American companies are interested in Gerrard, according to reports from the British press, from Toronto, who wants to replace Jermain Dafoe who is about to leave the Canadian team, the New York Red Bulls, in search of a star with which to replace Thierry Henry, who put an end to his racing career. The former sports director of Liverpool, Gerard Houllier, now occupies the same role in the team in New York. But the prevailing view, observes the Mirror, is that Gerrard will end in Los Angeles.

At Liverpool his companions did not take well the announcement of his departure. Some accuse the company of not having done enough to convince him to stay at least another year, at the end of the current season. But a veteran of the Reds, Phil Thompson, who dares Gerrard probably did not feel physically up for another season of Premier League, while still thinks he can play at a high level for a few years in a less competitive tournament like that American. “And his wife and their children might not mind spending a bit ‘of time in Los Angeles,” says Thompson. Relying on the advice of David and Victoria Beckham on how to settle down the hill from Hollywood.
