Samsung Galaxy vs Sony Smartwatch Gear 2: Our video comparison - Everything Android

Into Here we are with the two smartwatch for a comparison of the long-awaited moment, we’re talking of course Sony Smartwatch 2 and Samsung Galaxy Gear , both reviewed a few days ago. We tested these two devices at the bottom of it and we made a very clear idea. Starting from the technical / hardware both devices have a display 1.6 “ inches but with a different screen ratio, the Gear has a resolution of 320 x 320 pixels , while the smartwatch Sony of 220 x 176 pixels (and not 160 x 160 pixels as they say in the video). The technology used is different, we have a Super Amoled of Gear while on the device of Sony a transflective LCD that allows the unit to act as a reflective display when illuminated by direct light, then visible under the sun, as we showed during our test. From the point of view of functionality Gear for sure is much richer, allows you to take photos and record videos with the 1.9 MP sensor and to act as a speakerphone for your smartphone, being able to speak through microphone and speaker directly from the watch during a call. However, it is the smartwatch 2 to have many more applications, because this Smart Connect refers directly to the Play Store where developers publish their day-to-day applications are compatible, while the Galaxy Gear allows you to install other applications in addition to the default ones thanks to Samsung Apps.

Into One notable difference is in the compatibility : The Gear works only with Samsung devices with at least version 4.3 of Android, so currently Notes 3 and Galaxy S4, while the Sony smartwatch with all Android devices with at least version 4.0 or higher. Both devices allow you to receive notifications , but the smartwatch more fully, since installing suitable applications we have everything that appears in the center display notifications on the watch, while the Gear allows you to see the ‘preview notifications only for SMS, Email application stock and a few other programs, otherwise there will be shown a warning that invites us to open the application on your smartphone if you want to see the notification in full.

Into On the other hand, it is inevitable to say that the Gear is a device most technologically advanced : we have the ability to write messages, check the weather, record memos or tasks directly with the item due to the presence of SVoice, or use the camera’s capabilities really surprising since it is a clock or even the aforementioned phone capability. These are all functions that are not on the smartwatch 2, and then make the Samsung Galaxy Gear unique, but which are falling back on the autonomy that is significantly higher than the clock of Sony: we speak of 4 and a half days of our heavy usage against the 20/22 hours of the Gear.

Into From a physical point of view and materials Gear with its IP55 certification can resist dust and splashing water, while the smartwatch 2 with the certification IP57 dust and diving up to 1 meter deep. The price is very different, Galaxy Gear is offered at 299 €, while the Smartwatch 2 to 189 € 199 EUR silicone or metal.
