Samsung has announced a very short S5 Galaxy at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona . The hardware is obviously better S4 , but the choice of purchase may be more difficult when compared to the most recent Samsung Galaxy Note 3 , the South Korean phablet of the house more suited to a consumer business. The two terminals differ only in the size of the screen? No, there are others, features the hand. Here is a comparison of the two terminals, where we have listed the five important differences that distinguish them.
DESIGN AND DIMENSIONS
The design of the two terminals appears at first sight quite different . Note 3 appears with a more rectangular shape and uses a “fake leather” plastic for the back, while the S5 a cover in plastic pitted. Remains of this material, anything this time either aluminum , this is one of the main features that have partly disappointed users .
But an important difference is that Note 3 (142 x 72.5 x 8.1 mm) is less subtle and heavier than the Galaxy S5 (151.2 x 79.2 x 8.2 mm). While Notes 3 is 8.3 mm thick with a weight of 168 grams, the Galaxy S5 has a less bulky form factor of 8.1 mm of thickness and 145 grams in weight (though larger than the Galaxy S4, for the record). Minor differences but that the test of portability are felt. It must be said, however, notes that 3 has a screen of 5.7 inches, and larger than the 5.1 S5, which, however, is “grown up” than the last generation, approaching the phablet, although the notes 3 remains a bulkier device .
two smartphones share the same Super AMOLED display at 1080p, no resolution 2K for Samsung Galaxy S5 (probably arrive next year). We notice a marked difference in pixel density, 432 in the first and 386 in the second . Of course, the S5 will have more vivid colors and a better viewing angle. Finally, the Note 3 does not have a new rpevista, for now, only on S5: the heart rate meter on the back of the terminal.
HARDWARE AND PERFORMANCE
Samsung Galaxy S5 will offer the best in performance thanks to its 2.5 GHz Qualcomm 801, although it is not much higher than the 800 assembled in Snapdragon Note 3: note that in the latter well 3 GB of RAM, while the S5 has “only” 2.
CAMERA
This is a key difference between the two smartphones. S5 room has a 16-megapixel with LED flash and ISOCELL technology “phase detection” lens. This is used in SLR cameras and allows you to save separately plans to focus on possible adjustments. A solution that will reduce the time to focus, ensuring that by the Seoul is 0.3 seconds, the fastest of all. The camera will then be able to capture better pictures with less noise, even in low light conditions. It will also have the ability to shoot video in 4K (up to 5 minutes) at 30 fps per second. Note 3 instead has a 13-megapixel camera, and then lower.
BATTERYBattery life is always a very thorny topic. Obviously depends on the use that is made of the terminal and there are apps and practices that enable better battery life. Having said that, Notes 3 obviously has a larger battery, since it has a larger screen (and more space, very trivially). Figures released by Samsung would reward Note 3 in this segment, but we must try to hand the battery life to express a definite opinion.
SOFTWARE
Samsung has changed the look of TouchWiz for S5 and strengths are definitely the battery management with the new mode “Power Saving Mode”, when the battery is at the limit, and the fingerprint sensor. With this feature, simply by swiping your finger on the low point of the screen, you can activate a biometric protection of all content on your device, make sure that the payments on PayPal. The interface now looks much more fluid than in the past. Do not miss all the Samsung app, a new keyboard and a new center to quickly send SMS messages to your favorite contacts. All these features help software take up a lot of internal memory but, in fact, according to reports from SamMobile, the 16GB variant of the Galaxy S5 will only have 7.8 GB available to the user. The minimum amount of space required to run the system is of 5.28 GB, with external files that take up more 2.33 GB. A very similar situation compared to that recorded in S4 of 16 GB which had only 8.8 GB available to users. Tuto this, inevitably, is not present in Samsung Galaxy Note 3, which still enjoys an excellent software system.
Finally, thanks to Android Authority, here’s a video comparison between the Samsung Galaxy S5 and Note 3.
What emerges from this comparison are substantial differences side hardware, software, and overall functionality. The impression is that the differences between the two models become thinner more and more and this can cause confusion among users, especially because the diagonals of the screens are growing more and more (see S5) and approach the phablet a few years ago. As usual, the purchasing decision will be up to users based on their needs. You have until April 11th.
