Samsung Galaxy S4: how to improve battery performance - International Business Times Italy

Into The Galaxy S4 is one of the flagship products of Samsung, so much so that the Korean company to promote it with an aggressive marketing campaign in which even allows to flout the iPhone 5. However, despite the good sales that is registering the smartphone Samsung , its performance battery level is lower compared to those of some competitors.

Into This is also why in Suwon have decided to release a firmware update , aimed primarily at improving the energy consumption of the smartphone. GSMArena has carried out tests to see how Samsung has succeeded in the attempt.

Into Regarding the battery life in call, the improvement is certainly consistent , as you can see in the table below (the results pre-and post-upgrade steps are respectively highlighted in yellow and red): the gain of more than four hours (13h53 ‘to 18h03′), equal to 30.01% more, definitely pushes the Galaxy S4 among the top devices from this point of view, even if more than 21 hours of the Motorola RAZR MAXX are still far.

An improvement was also recorded with regard to video playback : The update to the Galaxy S4 provides over two more hours (from 10h16 ‘to 12h30′), representing an increase of 21 , 75%.

Into Surprisingly, the update causes instead a decrease in battery life while browsing on the internet . The performance went down from 8:42 a.m. ‘at 7:24 a.m.’, representing a decrease of 14.94%. It is a point on which Samsung will certainly intervene in the future.

Into Waiting for new updates from Samsung that allow a further increase in performance, however some small and simple tricks that can allow you to extend the battery life of the Galaxy S4, even significantly.

Energy saving function : The first tip is also the most obvious. In some cases, such as when you are already running out of battery, it is extremely useful to activate the power saving function. This will maximize the battery remaining, such as slowing down the CPU and decreasing the brightness.

Disable unnecessary features on the time : Air Gesture (which allows you to control the device without touch screen) or S Voice (which makes possible voice commands) are useful features, but not in every moment. Turn them off when not needed, will ensure a significant energy savings.

brightness of the screen in “Auto” mode : The display of the Galaxy S4 is without doubt one of the strengths of this smartphone, but it is also a true “vampire”, responsible for much of the battery power. It may be convenient to set the “Auto” mode for the brightness of the screen.

darker back grounds : Enter a dark background (ideally an image predominantly black) allows a saving compared to a light. “Coloring” a pixel consumes more energy that does not make it stay black: the gain in terms of energy, it should be said, is minimal. But it can “give away” a few minutes of operation in more.

Understanding what consumes more menu settings, you can access a very useful tool that shows what percentage of the app and open processes are consuming the battery. As already mentioned, in most cases the screen will be the master (even over 60%). Understanding what causes the largest energy expenditure is a good indication to correct its mode of use of the phone.
